Pierce Brosnan: ‘James Bond WILL continue in same vein despite #MeToo’
Last year the Harvey Weinstein sexual harassment scandal sparked a wave of women in Hollywood speaking out on similar encounters with powerful men.
And with the first post-MeToo James Bond movie arriving next year with Daniel Craig, how will 007 be affected by its impact?
After all the 55-year-old franchise based on Ian Fleming’s novels follows a womanising spy who in the earlier films was not afraid to hide his chauvinism.
Well now former Bond star Brosnan has spoken out, revealing he doesn’t think the MeToo movement will have an effect on the 007 franchise.
According to Metro, the 65-year-old said: “Well, I have no idea if the new films are going to address these social issues.
“I think Bond will continue in the same vein.
“I would suspect so, because men will continue to be men and women likewise.
“One hopes there will be more respect between the genders.”
Director Danny Boyle is working on Bond 25’s script with Trainspotting scribe John Hodge and he’s hinted at a progressive handling of the Bond girls.
Speaking with Page Six last month, the Oscar winner said: “You write in real time.”
“You acknowledge the legacy of the world [of Bond] and you write in the world — but you also write in the modern world as well.”
James Bond 25 is released in UK cinemas on October 26, 2019.
