Princess Anne’s wedding tiara: Queen’s daughter wore a Russian piece for her marriage
Princess Anne was somewhat of a fashion icon in her youth.
During the 60s and 70s the royal was known for her classic beehive hair do and serving on-trend looks.
So it is no surprise that her wedding was watched across the globe, with many eager to see her dress.
Anne married her first husband Mark Phillips in 1973 after they met at a party for horse enthusiasts.
They wed at Westminster Abbey, and around 100 million are estimated to have watched the event.
For her big day the royal wore the Queen Mary’s Russian Fringe tiara.
The Queen Mary’s Russian Fringe tiara is based on a traditional Russian headdress.
Many will recognise this famous tiara as the same on the Queen, then Princess Elizabeth, wore on her wedding day.
The Queen Mother was also fond of this tiara, wearing it often.
This priceless piece was made by Garrad, a jeweller with the royal stamp of approval.
The tiara can also be worn as a necklace, as the Queen found out on her wedding day.
Her Majesty said: “The catch, which I didn’t know existed, it suddenly went [gestures with her hands].
“And I didn’t know it was a necklace, you see…I thought I’d broken it…we stuck it all together again, but I was rather alarmed…”
The Queen often wears this tiara to this day.
Princess Anne and her husband Timothy Laurence live in a stunning country home.
The stunning home is privately owned, and was bought by the Queen for Anne for between between £500,000 and £750,000 in 1976. The sum of £750,000 would be worth £7.7m today.
What tiara did Anne’s daughter Zara Tindall wear for her wedding?
Her royal wedding was incredibly grand, and she wore a tiara now been valued at up to £4 million.
Zara wore the Meander Tiara. Deborah Papas, gemmologist and jewellery expert from Prestige Pawnbrokers of Channel 4’s Posh Pawn told Express.co.uk: “This is the most glamorous piece from Princess Anne’s stunning jewellery collection.
“The stunning tiara which belonged to her Great Grandmother (Prince Philip’s mother, Princess Andrew of Greece and Denmark) was lent to Zara on her wedding day by her mother, Princess Anne.”
