Robert De Niro and Al Pacino are frequent collaborators in the film world. Both have come together again to work with Martin Scorsese in his latest movie, The Irishman. But one of their movies is something De Niro would like to forget.

Robert De Niro is back together with his frequent acting collaborator, Al Pacino.

The pair have starred together in three movies before, and now the fourth, The Irishman, is expected to be an absolute smash.

Before this, Pacino and De Niro worked together in The Godfather: Part II, which won the latter his first Oscar.

After this, they worked together in Michael Mann movie Heat, which was a huge success as the pair played a cop and a robber engaged in a vicious game of cat and mouse.

However, it is the next film together which left De Niro with big regret, as he explained in an interview with Variety.

The 2008 movie Righteous Kill, follows two veteran cops as they lead two young guns in investigating a murder, which is full of twists and turns.

De Niro recalled the feeling he had at the Italian premiere of the movie, where his regret really began to sink in, and he turned to his co-star Pacino.

He said: “I said, ‘This is a great reaction, but it would be nice if they were here for a movie that we really feel proud about. Next time we’ll do one we like.’”

Luckily, that time has come with The Irishman, which is back in their element of mobsters, with Martin Scorsese at the helm.

Speaking about The Irishman, Pacino said: “It’s Bob and Marty in a world they understand, have researched and know better than anybody else.”

What is the Irishman about?

Netflix released a gripping synopsis ahead of the film’s release to send excitement levels sky-high.

The plot of The Irishman reads: “An epic saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th century.

“Spanning decades, the film chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and offers a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime: its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics.”

The film also chronicles Sheeran’s relationship with other mobsters such as Angelo Bruno and Russell Bufalino, played by Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel.

Pesci collaborated with Scorsese and De Niro on Raging Bull, which won De Niro his second Oscar; Goodfellas, which won Pesci his only Oscar; and Casino.

Keitel has also worked with De Niro and Scorsese before, having acted in Mean Streets and Taxi Driver.

The Irishman is in cinemas on a limited release on November 8, before it is released on Netflix on November 27
