Rocketman: Does Rocketman star Taron Egerton actually sing in Elton John biopic?

Rocketman will reach cinemas in the UK on May 24 and on May 31 in the US. The epic biopic will give viewers an insight to Sir Elton John’s life before he made his big breakthrough. Sir Elton John, whose real name is Reginald Dwight, has had a spectacular career spanning almost six decades. Taron Egerton, known from the Kingsman films and Eddie the Eagle, will play the popular singer-songwriter, and fans have been speculating if Egerton is actually singing in Rocketman.

Does Taron Egerton actually sing in the Elton John biopic?

After fans saw a clip of Egerton singing one of Elton John’s most popular songs ever “Tiny Dancer”, they began questioning whether it was really the actor’s voice they were hearing.

However, it has been confirmed that Egerton does sing in the biopic.

Giles Martin, the music producer on the film, said Egerton even got John’s seal of approval.

Mr Martin said: “Elton said, ‘I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone sing my songs better than Taron’.”

Director Dexter Fletcher echoed the sentiments about the young actor, saying: “Taron is actually singing in the film and he’s so convincing and his voice is incredible.”

For people who have watched the animated film Sing, they would already know Egerton’s musical talents.

His character, Johnny the monkey, performed I’m Still Standing – another hit by Elton John.

He also performed with Elton John at the singer’s AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party.

Last week, the first full song from the soundtrack was also released, where fans could hear Egerton’s version of the top hit Rocket Man.

As well as Taron Egerton singing and acting as Elton John, Game of Thrones and Bodyguard star Richard Madden will play John’s former manager, John Reid.

Billy Elliot’s Jamie Bell will star as Bernie Taupin, a long-time collaborator with John and Bryce Dallas Howard will play John’s mother Sheila Eileen.

Gemma Jones from Bridget Jones’s Diary is also set to appear.
