‘Rockstar’ Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall represents Scotland in kilt print skirt today

Camilla Parker Bowles is a senior royal known for championing women’s rights. She is the patron of a number of women-focused charities include Rape Crisis. Today she attended a girls school as part of her role as President of Women of the World.

Today Camilla met students at the Mulberry School for Girls in London.

Clarence House tweeted: “The East London school is involved with the Women of the World Festival, an initiative that celebrates women and girls and looks at the obstacles that stop them from achieving their potential. HRH is President of @WOWisGlobal.

The Duchess also met a pupil at the school, Sanjida, who was working on an oil painting inspired by the topic of gender equality.

One Twitter user wrote: “Love DoC. Always cheerful, does her duty and supports her Queen quietly and gracefully. A credit to the Royal Family.”

Another said: “A rockstar greeting!”

Camilla made a tribute to British leather craft with her DeMellier London bag.

The bag is the “Venice” number in “Forest Grain” and it costs £395.

DeMellier has been worn by many celebrities and other members of the Royal Family, including Princess Beatrice, who has two.

Pippa Middleton also has two bags by the brands, and Donna Air, ex-girlfriend of James Middleton, has one too.

The Duchess of Cornwall, who will one day be Queen, made a nod to Scotland with her tartan skirt.

Camilla is quite the fan of this look and has a vast number of tartan garments in her wardrobe.

She added a chic pie crust collar shirt under a grey jacket, ad wore her favourite everyday earrings – the pearl and diamond ones.

Earlier today she visited The Royal Foundation of St Katharine.

The venue hosts retreats and acts as a conference venue for charities and NGOs.

It also provides a meeting space for women’s groups, artists and community organisations.

Camilla Parker Bowles is the Duchess of Cornwall and wife of Prince Charles.

Family life

Camilla was born on 17 July 1947 at King’s College Hospital, London, England.

Her parents were Major Bruce Shand and Rosalind Cubitt, the daughter of a baron.

She has a younger sister Annabel Elliot, 69, and a younger brother Mark Shand who passed away in 2014. He sadly died after falling and hitting his head.

Education

Camilla first attended Dumbrells school in Ditchling before moving onto Queen’s Gate School in Queen’s Gate, South Kensington at age 10, where she was known as “Milla”.

She attained one O-level before attending a Mon Fertile finishing school in Tolochenaz, Switzerland.

She then went on to study French at the University of London Institute in Paris.

First marriage to Andrew Parker Bowles

Camilla married Andrew Parker Bowles, an officer, on 4 July 1973, when Camilla was 26. The Queen Mother and Princess Anne attended the big day.

The couple have two children, Tom, who Prince Charles is a godfather to, and Laura.

The couple divorced amicably in March 1995.

Marriage to Prince Charles

Prince Charles told in his biography that he and Camilla had rekindled their love in 1986 after his marriage had “irretrievably broken down”.

They announced their engagement in February 2005, which was the Queen Mother’s.

It is thought to be one of the most valuable rings in the royal collection.

They wed on April 2005 at Windsor Guildhall, where Prince William acted as a witness for the pair, before honeymooning in Scotland at Prince Charles’ home in Birkhall.
