American actress Meghan Markle, 36, will marry Prince Harry, 33, next month at Windsor Castle with royal family fans speculating that she may have a custom made tiara for her wedding much like Sarah Ferguson did when she married Prince Andrew in the eighties.

The Duchess of York, 58 debuted the York Diamond Tiara on her wedding day and wore it on many occasion there after. The platinum design with leafy diamond scrolls and diamond collets was said to have been purchased from Garrad by the Queen.

Kate Middleton, 36, wore the Cartier Halo Tiara on her wedding day to Prince William, 35, in 2011. Also known as Queen Elizabeth’s Halo Tiara, this piece was given to Her Majesty in 1944 on her 18th birthday and has been worn by Princess Margaret and Princess Anne.

The Queen wore Queen Mary’s Fringe Tiara on her wedding day in 1947 when she married Prince Phillip. The diamond tiara is based on a traditional Russian design and proved so popular that there are many similar designs in the royal collection. Queen Mary gave the tiara to Queen Elizabeth who wore it many times throughout King George VI’s reign.

Princess Diana famously chose to wear the Spencer Tiara for her 1981 wedding to Prince Charles. The family tiara can be traced back a century through the aristocratic Spencer family.

Royal tiaras are often worn at state banquets and formal events hosted by the royal family.

When Camilla Parker Bowles married Prince Charles she was given three tiaras on loan from the Queen. The Greville Tiara designed in 1921 for the Hon. Mrs Greville and then given to the Queen Mother when she died in 1942 was one of them.

The Lovers Knot Tiara is a very popular choice worn recently by Kate Middleton at Buckingham Palace.

It was a favourite of Princess Diana and has also been worn by Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Mary. It is often confused with the Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara which it was inspired by.

Other popular tiaras include the Lotus Flower Tiara, the Grand Duchess Vladimir Tiara and Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara.
