Scandal-hit Walsh to dance on Strictly this weekend
Seann Walsh and dance partner Katya Jones look set to appear in this weekend’s Strictly Come Dancing despite the furore over pictures of them kissing.
The pair are featured in a video posted by the BBC Strictly Twitter account which reveals the routines coming up for the fourth week of the show.
Speculation has mounted that the dance partners may quit the series or be booted out after Walsh’s now ex-girlfriend posted a statement about the scandal and his treatment of her.
But the new clip confirms they will dance the Charleston to upbeat hip-hop track Bills by LunchMoney Lewis on Saturday.
Both Walsh and Jones, who is married to fellow Strictly dancer Neil Jones, apologised on social media after the pictures were published in The Sun.
However, Rebecca Humphries, who had been in a relationship with Walsh for several years, responded with a statement saying she had received no personal apology and that the pictures had been taken on her birthday, while she was at home alone.
The actress said the comedian’s “actions over the last three weeks had led to believe something inappropriate was going on” but that he denied it, repeatedly calling her “psycho/nuts/mental”.
Her statement has since been retweeted and liked tens of thousands of times.
She has also received dozens of messages of support on social media, with celebrities including Myleene Klass, Carol Vorderman and Stacey Solomon all praising the way she has handled the scandal.
Speaking to Sky News, singer and former Strictly contestant Sophie Ellis-Bextor said Ms Humphries’s statement was “really powerful”.
Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan is among those backing Walsh and Jones, saying he thinks they should remain in the competition.
“I hope they come through the storm, I hope they do a fantastic performance, and I hope they rise above the fray,” he said.
Ms Humphries was in the Strictly audience last weekend to cheer her then boyfriend on, unaware at the time of the photos that had been taken just a few days earlier.
She had also enthusiastically supported both Walsh and Jones on social media.
Walsh has not commented since Ms Humphries’s statement was posted on Twitter, and Strictly bosses are yet to address the scandal.
