She's used to mimicking celebrities but impressionist Jess Robinson's style is all her own
Jess Robinson was a semi- finalist in Britain’s Got Talent last year
How would you describe your style off stage?
I love florals and skater dresses, so my style is quite girlie but comfortable at the same time.
I love wearing them with Converse trainers or chunky boots.
What colours and shapes suit you best?
I love colour, especially cornflower blue and purple – someone once told me it was the colour of madness, which sounds about right.
I hate the tops of my arms so I usually wear sleeves, but I like my small waist so I like shapes that cinch in there.
What is your favourite fashion era?
The 1950s, with the little waists and the skirts that kicked out – the Grease style.
I’d much rather be a Marilyn Monroe than a Twiggy.
Who is your style icon?
Holly Willoughby.
She’s beautiful, she has a womanly figure and her style feels achievable to normal people.
I also like people who aren’t afraid to try weird things, like Paloma Faith.

What can the audience expect from your new show?
My style was once described as “a mega concert with all your favourite stars”.
I do impressions of pop stars and celebrities along with stand-up comedy and talking about my own life.
I’ve also got a three-piece band – I call them Jessington World of Adventures – and we cover all genres, from Katherine Jenkins to Nicki Minaj. It’s spectacular, a little bit cheeky and there’s something for everyone.
Who is your favourite person to impersonate? It depends on the day of the week.
I like to switch between voices really fast, like starting with someone classic like Judy Garland then suddenly switching to Cardi B.
I love doing Paloma Faith, too.
She sounds like a baby when she speaks but she sings with such a big, deep voice – I call it a “split voicenality”.
What is your typical stage outfit?
I’ve got my trusty tour boots, these big studded ones from Asos, which are really comfortable.
I used to be all about sleek sequin dresses but now because I’m doing lots of young pop stars, I wanted a style that reflected me a bit more, cheeky and cheerful.
Have you ever made a fashion faux pas?
Do you remember those skirt- trousers – “skrousers” – in the 90s?
There’s a photo of me at school and I’m wearing a hideous grey pair.
I’m always on the edge of making a fashion faux pas if left to my own devices.
Although she loves these heels, Jess says her feet aren’t made for heels.
What are your favourite high-street stores?
Lipsy, Warehouse and the department stores, and Calzedonia do jeans that fit me perfectly.
Oasis and Accessorize are good for accessories and Mint Velvet are best for jumpers.
Do you own anything vintage?
A leather handbag from a thrift shop on Carnaby Street and a chain-mail top that belonged to my mum.
Are you good at clearing out your wardrobe regularly?
I can be quite drastic when I need to be.
Once every three months, I’ll do a massive clear-out and take stuff to the charity shop.
But if I like something, I might buy three of them and never wear them.
What is the most expensive item in your wardrobe?
My Chanel sunglasses, which I wear all the time, although I do have a habit of sitting on sunglasses. I don’t spend huge amounts on clothes, though.

How many shoes and handbags do you own?
About 15 pairs of shoes. My feet are not made for heels. I love M&S, Converse and FitFlop shoes – I’m happy to team a cool outfit with a sensible shoe.
With bags, I switch between a black and a brown one, but for Edinburgh it’s better to use a backpack, so I’m currently looking for a practical but feminine one.
What is your best beauty secret?
For the last few months, I’ve been buying cups of frozen ingredients from Batch Organics, which I blend into smoothies, and it has really helped my skin and made me feel less tired.
What is the best piece of fashion advice you could give?
Wear what makes you feel your best self and focus on your positives.
