Solo A Star Wars Story: Donald Glover reveals Lando icon Billy Dee Williams' PERFECT tip

Glover plays the younger Lando Calrissian in the movie, which opens later this month on a wave of encouraging buzz following last night’s premiere.

Speaking on Jimmy Kimmel’s US chatshow last night, he opened up on what Star Wars legend Williams told him.

“I’d already heard Alden had met [Harrison Ford] so I wanted to come in and do that to,” he recalled.

“So I came in with all this stuff, like ‘maybe Lando’s from this planet, maybe he did this, maybe he’s like…’, just all these maybes and questions that I kind of had.

“I just lay it all out there.”

But Williams was, it seems, surprisingly chilled in the face of Glover’s in-depth research.

“It’s funny ‘cause I don’t even think he was even looking at me when he said it, but Billy’s like… ‘I don’t know, just be charming, man.’”

Laughing, Glover added: “He taught me a valuable lesson: don’t overthink this, just be cool.”

Glover is on an artistic roll at the moment: in addition to featuring in Solo, his new song This Is America has had huge global success since its release last weekend.

In particular its music video has had widespread acclaim, clocking up over 70 million YouTube views in less than a week.

In Solo, Glover stars opposite Ehrenreich as Han Solo, the role made famous by Ford back in the original trilogy.

Additionally Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Paul Bettany are also on board.

The movie had been plagued by production difficulties, with Ron Howard replacing Phil Lord and Christopher Miller during the filming process.

Solo: A Star Wars Story is out on May 24.
