Sophie Countess of Wessex: The clue showing her influence over royals like Kate Middleton

Sophie, Coutness of Wessex, married the Queen’s son, Prince Edward, 55, on 19 June 1999.

Since then, she has appeared as a working royal at many events on behalf of the Queen.

This week, she headed to Forfar, Scotland, to meet with different businesses in the area.

When she carries out her duties, Sophie’s fashion could reveal her key influence on younger royals, such as Kate Middleton, 37.

Sophie joined Prince Edward on a trip to Scotland to meet visit a number of different businesses.

While there, she wore a stunning pink dress and adopted a fashion forward style with pink shoes.

The Countess is often spotted out wearing pieces from her chic wardrobe and her favourite designers, Emilia Wickstead and Oscar de la Renta, could reveal a lot about her role in the Royal Family.

Natasha Henson, editor of British Style Society, told Express.co.uk: “The Countess of Wessex appears to be a lover of function and great design.

“Her off-duty looks are often practical depending on her particular duties.

“However, even the simplest of outfits such as tailored trousers and a comfortable top are complemented with stylish accessories and footwear every time.”

As well as choosing practical outfits, Sophie is not afraid to re-wear outfits, which is something other royals have since followed.

“She’s not afraid to re-wear clothing, which showcases a confidence in her style and fashion choices,” Natasha told Express.co.uk.

“Colour and print are other elements that Sophie doesn’t shy away from and this suggests a fun and relaxed vibe away from the public eye.”

Kate Middleton appears to have taken inspiration from Sophie’s look and has also stepped out in designs by Sophie’s favourite, Emilia Wickstead.

Meghan Markle also seems to have followed Sophie’s lead with some of her fashion choices.

Natasha said: “In recent years they have tailored this look to suit royal duties but still wear relatable staples such as the sold-out Zara dress Kate wore to a charity polo game.

“Each still pays homage to their personality traits in both on and off-duty looks much like the Countess of Wessex and complements each look with stunning accessories.

“The Duchess of Cambridge also shares a love of some of Sophie’s favourite designers including Emilia Wickstead and Erdem.”

Since marrying, Sophie and Edward have had two children together and they currently live in Bagshot Park, near Windsor. 

Although Sophie is not a Duchess, it has been suggested she could one day be given the title of the Duchess of Edinburgh.
