Sophie Countess of Wessex's brooch worth quarter of a MILLION pounds – taking after Diana

Sophie Countess of Wessex married into the Royal Family in 1999, and is a working royal. This means she represents the Queen at public appearances and engagements numerous times a year. These occasions often call for glamorous clothes and stunning jewellery. The Countess is particularly keen on aquamarine jewellery and has a brooch with the gem worth a huge sum of money.

So just how much is this extravagant pin worth?

Ailsa Russell Appraiser Prestige Pawnbrokers of Channel 4’s Posh Pawn told Express.co.uk: “This Art Deco design brooch favoured by the Countess of Wessex features a large emerald step-cut aquamarine of intense sea blue colour surrounded by diamond and set within bands of blue and green enamel.

“Debuted by the Countess to the wedding of Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco in July 2011, the brooch has seen many public appearances since including several visits to Royal Ascot.

“The impressive brooch is a jewellery staple for the Countess and as such could reach £250,000 at auction.”

Sophie takes after Princess Diana in her love of the light blue stone, as the late mother of Prince Harry and William had a few pieces made using the gem.

In fact, Sophie Countess of Wessex has a bright blue aquamarine ring almost identical to one Diana had, which is now worn by Meghan Markle.

Aquamarines have grown increasingly popular among members of the Royal Family in recent years.

Ailsa said: “Aquamarines like emeralds, are a colour scale of the mined gem stone called beryl.

“Emeralds are green to blue beryls and aquamarines are blue to green beryls. Alongside rubies, emeralds, and sapphires, aquamarines are the most popular hard gemstone for jewellery.”

As most aquamarines are greenish blue, the more intense and saturated the blue colour, the rarer the stone and therefore the more expensive they are.

Ailsa added: “However, slightly lighter, but perfectly clear, aquamarines are still incredibly popular and sought after because it is immediately obvious what stone they are.

“They remain very popular and desirable on the open market, there was a noticeable increase in demand after Meghan Markle wore princess Diana’s Asprey ring.”

Sophie Countess of Wessex has £1.5 million worth of royal tiaras with the stone.

What did Sophie Countess of Wessex’s wedding tiara reveal about her role in the Royal Family.

Sophie’s tiara was very unique as it was commissioned by the Queen to be worn on her big day, Eddie LeVian, CEO of jeweller Le Vian, explained.

Eddie told Express.co.uk: “The tiara Sophie, Countess of Wessex, wore for her wedding day, the day she became a royal was commissioned for her by the Queen and is widely believed to have been made up of four pieces of Queen Victoria’s Regal Circlet.”
