Spider-Man 2: The truth behind Jake Gyllenhaal Mysterio casting rumours in Far From Home

Marvel boss Kevin Feige was asked recently whether it’s true that Jake Gyllenhaal is set to join the MCU as Mysterio.

But, speaking to ComicBook.com, he revealed that the actor has not been officially confirmed to join the movie.

Spider-Man: Far From Home will be the first Marvel movie after Avengers 4, and Feige kept his cards close to his chest about the what, when and where of the film too.

“Well, I mean, sure, let the speculation begin. That’s always fun,” he said.

“We like [the title] of course because it ties into Homecoming, not just keeping that word going, which we like and we liked it more than Homecoming 2, but that notion of ‘home’ is a word that has dual meanings we’d like to continue with this version of Spider-Man. So, Far From Home has multiple meanings.”

Spider-Man was, of course, one of many MCU heroes to turn to ash at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, although actor Tom Holland is due to appear in some capacity in next year’s Avengers 4.

So Marvel are in a tricky situation with how to promote Far From Home, given that it’s unclear whether Spider-Man will return from the dead next summer or if the sequel will be set in the past.

“There’s a lot of fun stuff,” Feige assured.

“How it connects, where it connects, when it takes place, very similar to Ant-Man and the Wasp in that we’re not gonna say right now.”

Tom Holland himself revealed the title of his next solo outing late last week, and it’s going into production this summer.

Also on the horizon are Ant-Man and the Wasp, due for release next month in the US and early August in the UK.

That film, seeing the returns of Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly in the titular roles, takes place in the direct run-up to Infinity War.

The Captain Marvel solo film is then due in Spring 2019; set in the 1990s. Brie Larson, playing Carol Danvers, will then be in Avengers 4.

Avengers 4 is out in May 2019.
