Spider-Man Far From Home end credit scene X-Men teaser inspired by Tony Stark?

For too many years the biggest Marvel teams have been kept separate on screen. The main Marvel universe has the Avengers, with The X-Men and Fantastic Four across at 20th Century Fox. Incredibly, it is the newly integrated Sony-owned Spider-Man who has laid the first steps for the X-men to enter the MCU. Fans spotted the clues in the scene at the very end of the credits. WARNING: SPOILERS

The shocking scene reveals that the Nick Fury who has been on-screen throughout the entire film is actually the Skrull leader Talos from Captain Marvel.

The real Fury is then shown on a giant space ship or space station, surrounded by Skrulls.

Some kind of enormous project is underway and X-Men fans are sure it leads into a popular storyline from a Joss Whedon X-men comic book series.

The Astonishing X-men series in the early 2000s introduced the idea of a space-based defensive system for the planet in Issue 6 of Volume 3.  

S.W.O.R.D. or the Sentient World Observation and Response Department was created to deal with extraterrestrial threats to world security.

It is exactly the kind of thing Tony Stark was convinced was necessary, once he realised there were threats to Earth beyond our planet.

The headquarters were located on a space station orbiting the Earth called The Peak. Is this where Fury was?

The major difference would be the role of the Skrulls. In the hugely popular Secret Invasion storyline they penetrate Earth’s most powerful organisations, replacing key figures, including at SHIELD.

The Captain Marvel movie somehow made the Skrulls suddenly adorable and helpful, hence their cooperation with Fury.

Imagine how much more thrilling it would have been if that end credit scene had stopped at the revelation Fury and Maria Hill had been replaced by Skrulls, leaving a huge cliffhanger.
