Spider-Man Far From Home stars Tom Holland as your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, aka Peter Parker. Following in the aftermath of Avengers: Endgame, Peter and his classmates go on a European trip, but Parker can’t quite leave crime fighting behind just yet. The reviews embargo has now lifted and critics have had their say.

What do critics say about Spider-Man Far From Home?

The second Spider-Man movie gets a positive 88 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

On Metacritic, which scores films on a weighted average, Spider-Man Far From Home fared well.

The sequel has a 69 score, indicating generally favourable reviews.

Darren Franich for Entertainment Weekly

I wound up liking Far From Home more than any Spider-Man film this decade.

SPIDER-MAN FAR FROM HOME: TOM HOLLAND LOVES NEW SUITS FOR THIS REASON

Peter Bradshaw for the Guardian

Tom Holland is still very winning as Spidey.

Johnny Oleksinski for the New York Post

The action, villainy, twists and overall logic fall short of its awesome predecessor.

Robbie Collin for the Daily Telegraph

Spider-Man: Far From Home offers a breezy, Europe-set intermezzo between Avengers: Endgame and whatever is coming next – a kind of sorbet in blockbuster form to punctuate the binge.

Brian Truitt for USA Today

Director Jon Watts’ sequel isn’t as tightly focused or effortlessly charming as 2017’s “Homecoming,” yet it continues Holland’s amazing Spidey run and introduces Jake Gyllenhaal in his top-notch first comic-book role.

Todd McCarthy for the Hollywood Reporter

This second installment in the latest live-action Spider-Man reboot founders as it stomps through picturesque old cities in a series of ill-motivated and less-than-awesome action set-pieces.

Jesse Hassenger for AV Club

Watts… smoothly steers some of that heavy MCU world-building back into goofy high-school comedy, and his cast is so winning that the movie’s interpersonal surprises are often more exciting than its big plot twists.

Ben Travis for Empire Magazine

It’s not quite the home-run of Homecoming, but Far From Home isn’t far from matching it, with heaps of humour, energetic action, and the answers Endgame left you craving.

Owen Gleiberman for Variety

Far From Home gets closer, in spirit, to the good Tobey Maguire films.

Joshua Rothkopf for Time Out

Almost aware of how thirsty it is, the new movie — meta, irreverent and nowhere near a bad time — works best when it plays like a vacation from seriousness.

Tim Grierson for Screen International

Boasting a breezy spirit and Tom Holland’s likeable turn as the titular webslinger, Far From Home is adequately rousing and jokey, but too often it has the feel of a transitional chapter in the ongoing Marvel saga.

Alex Abad-Santos for Vox

Spider-Man: Far From Home is great – once it gets out of its own way.

Scott Mendelson for Forbes

It cares a lot more about Peter Parker than Spider-Man (or the overall MCU arc), and that’s a good thing.

Alexis Nedd for Mashable

Even though the next phase is still shrouded in mystery, Spider-Man: Far From Home does a fantastic job of latching the door that Endgame closed, while opening a whole new universe of possibilities for Marvel.

Charles Pulliam-Moore for io9.com

What’s most satisfying about Far From Home, though, is that by the end, you have a very solid sense of where things are going for Peter and the gang, and it all feels very right.

David Crow for Den of Geek

When it succeeds, it is nothing short of jubilant about the opportunity to put on a joyful show, stopping just short of actually buttering your popcorn mid-scene.

Spider-Man Far From Home is out in cinemas on July 2, 2019.
