Spider-Man Far From Home: What does THIS mean for Captain America?

WARNING SPOILERS FOR SPIDER-MAN FAR FROM HOME AHEAD. The opening of Spider-Man Far From Home began with Whitney Houston’s I Always Love You, as a memorial segment of the Midtown High newscast for the superheroes who died in Avengers Endgame is shown. The section showed Iron Man, Vision and Black Widow but oddly also Captain America. Vision was killed by Thanos before the Snap and Iron Man and Black Widow perished during Endgame, but Steve Rogers survived – so what’s going on?

Well, Avengers Endgame ended with Cap returning the Infinity Stones and Mjolnir to their original times, before travelling back to the 1940s to live with Peggy. 

Falcon is then introduced to a well over 100 years old Steve Rogers who hands over his shield.

So there’s a couple of reasons that may explain why Captain America featured in the In Memoriam section of the newscast.

The most obvious is that when he went back in time, that was the last of young Cap as far as people in 2023 were concerned.

IS MYSTERIO STILL ALIVE?

However, Spider-Man Far From Home is set eight months after Avengers Endgame finishes, so perhaps old Steve Rogers has died during that period?

Of course, it’s unknown if Captain America’s final journey back in time and his presence in 2023 as an old man are public or a secret kept by the Avengers.

Perhaps, more light will be shone on this mystery in a future MCU movie or in the Falcon and Winter Soldier TV show.

Meanwhile, Spider-Man Far From Home’s end credits scenes were pretty shocking.

The mid-credits scene saw the return of JK Simmons as J Jonah Jameson, broadcasting a fake video of Spider-Man as the true villain rather than Mysterio.

Quentin Beck then publicly revealed that the Web-Slinger is Peter Parker, meaning Spider-Man 3 will probably see the poor high school student on the run trying to clear his name.

Meanwhile, the post-credits sting revealed that Nick Fury and Maria Hill were Skrulls Talos and Soren throughout the movie, while Nick was on holiday on a Skrull ship in space.
