The recent adaptation of Marvel‘s Venom character has proven Sony‘s superhero chops.

Now the studio is set to develop an entirely new universe for Spider-Man spinoffs: the Spider-Verse.

The first movie to set the foundation for the universe is Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Miles Morales is the main character of the animated movie, and if the reaction to the sneak-peek footage is anything to go by, it will be a success.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is out in UK cinemas on December 12, 2018.

Two days later, on December 14, 2018, the animated Spider-Man movie will premiere in US cinemas.

Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) voices Gwen Stacy, who in Into the Spider-Verse is also Spider-Gwen, an alternate universe version of Gwen Stacy.

Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) voices Aaron Davis, who is Mile’s uncle as well as the villain the Prowler.

Brian Tyree Henry (Atlanta) voices MIles’ father Jefferson Davis who is a police officer and Luna Lauren Velez (Dexter) voices as Rio Morales, Miles’s mother.

Lily Tomlin lends her voice to May Parker, Peter’s aunt.

Given Into the Spider-Verse allows for multiple spider-men, John Mulaney gives his voice to Peter Porker aka Spider-Ham.

Spider-Ham is a comedic version of Spider-Man – a spider who was bitten by a radioactive pig and transformed into a pig with superpowers.

Kimiko Glenn (Orange Is the New Black) is Peni Parker, a Japanese middle school student from a futuristic anime alternate universe who pilots a mecha-suit alongside a radioactive spider through a psychic connection.

Nicolas Cage is also in the cast as another Peter Parker, this time the Spider-Man Noir.

This version is a 1930s universe version of Peter Parker, which Cage based on the films of Humphrey Bogart.

Liev Schreiber plays the crime lord Wilson Fisk aka Kingpin.
