Spike Lee on Netflix: BlacKkKlansman director fills out Da 5 Bloods cast with Marvel star

Spike Lee is a prolific movie-maker, whose films have shaped the pop culture zeitgeist since 1986. But only at this year’s Oscars was he finally rewarded for his talent with an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for BlacKkKlansman. Who is in the cast of Da 5 Bloods?

The newest addition to the cast is Clarke Peters from The Wire.

He joins BlacKkKlansman’s Isiah Whitlock Jr. and Jasper Pääkkönen.

Stage actor and singer Norm Lewis (Sex And The City 2) is in the cast along with Mélanie Thierry (The Zero Theorem).

Few details about who these actors play have been released as of writing.

Chadwick Boseman of Black Panther fame stars in the film.

What is the plot of Da 5 Bloods?

Lee’s film follows the story of four African American vets who return to Vietnam.

They are looking for the remains of their fallen squad leader and the promise of buried treasure.

The official synopsis continues: “The heroes battle forces of man and nature while confronted by the lasting ravages of the immorality of the Vietnam War.”

Da 5 Bloods’ script is penned by Danny Bilson, Paul DeMeo, Matt Billingsly, Kevin Willmott and Spike Lee.

This film is the fourth collaboration between Spike Lee and Netflix.

He wrote and directed the series version of She’s Gotta Have It which is in its second season.

Lee also directed Roger Guenveur Smith’s (Do The Right Thing) one-man show Rodney King for Netflix.

The third title borne out of Lee and Netflix’s collaboration is the time-travel feature film See You Yesterday.

See You Yesterday, which Lee produced, is currently in post-production.

Da 5 Bloods has no trailer yet and is still in pre-production.

Variety reported: “Sources expect production to begin as early as next month.”

BlacKkKlansman was a milestone for Lee; the film garnered him six Oscar nominations and his first win.
