Star Wars 9: Kylo Ren REDEMPTION foreshadowed by THIS scene in A New Hope? Read fan theory

The Star Wars Skywalker saga comes to a close with the upcoming Episode 9, which is out in December and will bring the characters’ stories to a close.

As for antagonist Kylo Ren (Adam Driver), fans have been split over whether he’ll live or die, and whether he’ll end his arc as a redeemed hero or a true villain.

One sign that he could be saved has been pointed out by Reddit user u/ThatSoodooGuy, whose theory points to a scene with Owen and Beru in A New Hope – as well as an exchange between Leia and Han in The Force Awakens.

In the latter, “Han says something close to ‘its too late for him, he has too much of his grandfather in him’,” the theorist points out.

They added: “This is close to the conversation between Owen and Beru when they say ‘you can’t keep him here forever, he has too much of his father in him.’ Owen responds with ‘I know, that’s what I’m afraid of.’

“So obviously Luke never fully gave into the Dark Side and managed to redeem his father.”

Could Kylo follow a similar trajectory?

The theory continues: “Even after his struggle in The Last Jedi, it is clear that the Skywalker bloodline course corrects back to the light no matter how strong the pull of the dark is.

“Since the whole saga is about balance and finding peace in conflict, I think it’s fitting that this would apply to Ben as well.

“We’ve heard over and over about how IX will end all three trilogies, so why wouldn’t this theme be carried forward as well?”

The post has, at time of writing, been 83% Upvoted on the Star Wars Speculation Subreddit.

Although details of the movie’s plot, let alone its ending, are shrouded in secrecy, Daisy Ridley – who plays Rey – has promised a fitting and moving finale.

“What I would say is that I think it’s a brilliant end to the story,” she told Good Morning America.

“And like J.J. [Abrams] and Chris [Terrio], who wrote it as well, have done an incredible job of like wrapping up, because there are so many references, obviously, to the nine films.

“But also [it] exists in its own thing. So, I think people are going to feel very satisfied.”

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is out on December 19.
