As JJ Abrams continues principle photography on the trilogy finale – ostensibly the last part of the entire Skywalker saga – another actor is as good as confirmed to be back.

It’s Temmin ‘Snap’ Wexley, played by Greg Grunberg.

Grunberg appeared in The Force Awakens and now it seems Abrams is poised to call on him again for the as-yet-untitled adventure.

Speculation on his return dates back to San Francisco Comic Con, when he was quoted by Yahoo! Entertainment as saying: “You know what — we’d better or else my wife is going to kill me for growing a beard.

“I can’t officially say anything, but this is getting itchy, and I’m getting itchy to go over there and do it.”

Rumours have since spread on Facebook that he told fans at Fairfax Comic Con that he is expected in the UK imminently to shoot his scenes.

Plot details for Star Wars Episode 9 are, as expected, being kept extremely under wraps, but last week pictures emerged of Oscar Isaac, John Boyega and Joonas Suotamo shooting scenes as Poe, Finn and Chewbacca respectively.

Filmed just outside of London, the sequence appeared to be quite a big one, with multiple extras also seen in between takes.

The actors are joined in the returning cast by Daisy Ridley as Rey, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico, Lupita Nyong’o as Maz Kanata and Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux.

Mark Hamill will also be reprising the iconic role of Luke Skywalker, with Anthony Daniels back as C-3PO and Billy Dee Williams making a long overdue return as Lando Calrissian.

Via archive footage filmed before her death, Carrie Fisher’s Leia will also be seen one final time.

Abrams said last month: “We desperately loved Carrie Fisher Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us.

“We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honour Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”

Naomi Ackie, Richard E. Grant, and Keri Russell join the team as new characters, along with Dominic Monaghan.

John Williams will once again compose the score, after working his magic on every other chapter in the saga so far.

Star Wars: Episode 9 is out in December 2019.
