Star Wars 9: Mark Hamill reveals how SMALL Luke Skywalker's role is – Fans WON'T be happy
Hamill and the devoted legions of fans had high expectations when the Sequel Trilogy was announced. The Skywalker saga would finally be brought to a grand and resounding end, with all three of the original stars at its centre. Or so everyone thought at the time. But Han Solo was killed off and Luke was barely in The Force Awakens at all. The Last Jedi shocked everyone again (for better or worse) when Luke was also dispatched. Just how much will he be in the final film? Not that much at all, it seems.
Star Wars fans will most likely not be best pleased with the latest information Hamill let slip in among a general reflection on his hopes and disappointments surrounding the latest three movies.
The actor told Den of Geek: “They killed me off. I thought, ‘Oh, okay, you should push my death off to the last one.’ That’s what I was hoping when I came back: no cameos and a run-of-the-trilogy contract. Did I get any of those things? Because as far as I’m concerned, the end of (Star Wars) VII is really the beginning of VIII. I got one movie! They totally hornswoggled (tricked) me.”
One new piece of information leaps out from this.
STAR WARS 9: MARK HAMILL BLASTS TWO BIGGEST ‘MISTAKES’ IN NEW TRILOGY
Hamill’s comments make it clear he does not count his appearance in Episode IX as a full movie role. This ties in with all the most recent rumours and leaks.
It is known that Hamill has filmed scenes at Pinewood. The actor himself has posted about his involvement.
What is looking increasingly likely is that he will either appear in a Force Ghost cameo to Kylo Ren, Rey or both.
Either that or he will be shown in more flashbacks, possibly an extension of Rey’s Forceback visions from The Force Awakens or Kylo’s (possibly biased) memories from The Last Jedi.
Hamill himself continues that he has made his own peace with the way the final trilogy has shaped up.
He added: “Listen, I never expected to come back. We had a beginning, a middle, and an end. That’s what I said, ‘Why mess with it?’
“It’s not something that worries me, because it’s all about the new generation, as it should be.”
Whether fans, especially those who started the backlash over frustrations with the perceived disregard of all that had come before in the franchise, will be quite so zen about it remains to be seen.
