Star Wars 9 Rise of Skywalker FINAL trailer release date: Here's when it's likely to air
Since April, there’s been a couple of major trailers for Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker. But just like in the run-up to Avengers Endgame, much of the film’s plot is under-wraps to prevent spoilers. This means, as with The Last Jedi, there’s only one more main trailer for The Rise of Skywalker expected between now and its Christmas release. But now it looks like the last big look at the mysterious movie is coming sooner than expected.
The BBFC website has posted that “STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER [Trailer C]” has been rated 12A uncut.
At 2 minutes and 16 seconds, this trailer sounds very much like the expected final one.
But just when will the teaser hit the internet?
Well, the final trailer for The Last Jedi arrived on October 10, 2017, so it’s probably only a month’s wait for the next look at The Rise of Skywalker.
Meanwhile, Screen Rant reckon the trailer will air in October during a Monday Night Football broadcast on ESPN.
After all, Disney used this outlet for The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi’s final trailers in 2015 and 2017 respectively.
But what will fans see in the final trailer for The Rise of Skywalker?
After all, the Disney D23 footage showed a disturbing scene of Rey in a black Sith cloak brandishing a double-ended red lightsaber.
Certainly, we’d expect some more big surprises like this, but also perhaps a proper look at Emperor Palpatine.
Darth Sidious, who is the main villain in Episode IX, could be heard laughing in The Rise of Skywalker teaser trailer, before speaking a few lines of dialogue in the D23 one. While his face looms over a new official poster.
Surely, the final trailer will give a glimpse of Palpatine in whatever form he now takes – even if it’s just his voice permeating through Darth Vader’s helmet.
It’s a popular new theory that Palpatine latched his soul on to Darth Vader’s crushed helmet – the very one last seen in The Force Awakens that’s making a return in The Rise of Skywalker.
After all, a redeemed Anakin Skywalker was hit by Darth Sidious’ Force lightning as he threw his former master off the ledge in Return of the Jedi. In this moment, it’s possible that Palpatine transferred his soul to the headgear – a piece that is now in the possession of Kylo Ren.
To back up this theory it is now canon in Star Wars lore that Sith Lords can live on through Dark Side artefacts.
In a recent official Darth Vader comic, Palpatine gave his apprentice the helmet of Lord Momin which began to talk to him If Darth Sidious had such an artefact, surely he knew he could survive in a similar way?
Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker is released in UK cinemas on December 19, 2019.
