Star Wars 9 trailer date and presale tickets: US and UK ticket sites huge hint for MONDAY
Hopes were very high the Episode 9 trailer would land this week on Monday. John Boyega’s agent actually prematurely posted a message on Instagram declaring the day and time. Except, everybody now is pretty sure the day and time were right but the date was wrong. Tickets are expected to go on sale as soon as the trailer lands, and major UK and US sites are already gearing up.
At the start of the week, a fan spotted that US site Fandango had loaded the ticket page for Rise of Skywalker
Fans will have to choose between a tantalising selection of formats.
As well as the regular 2D presentation, the film is being released in 3D, IMAX and IMAX 3D.
Now every major ticket site and cinema chain in both countries has their Star Wars 9 ticket booking pages primed and ready, including Odeon and Vue in the UK. All tell a variation on the same message – tickets are not on sale yet but fans can pre-register to be notified as soon as they are.
Every sign in this galaxy and the one far, far away points to Monday, October 21 for the main trailer and ticket release date – and this is why.
Just like the Star Wars movies themselves, Lucasfilm and Disney like to repeat patterns.
Episode 7 and 8 dropped their main trailer mid-October. It now seems impossible Episode 9 won’t do the same.
The franchise favours the television broadcast of Monday night football in the US as the platform for the trailer debut. It always has one of the biggest audiences. It has one main advertising break at half-time. It attracts a multi-generational audience which crosses social boundaries.
This coming Monday sees a clash between the New England Patriots and New York Jets.
So what time should Star Wars fans tune in – or be scanning the internet for the subsequent immediate release online?
The match kicks off at 8.15pm Eastern Standard Time.
In the US that is 5.15pm on the Pacific Coast. Meanwhile, across over here in the UK, it is a quarter past midnight.
The half-time advertising break should start around 9.30pm EST, 6.30pm Pacific and 1.30am in the UK.
It means fans have just a few days until the see if any final shock twists up the Star wars sleeves – and make sure they are there on opening night when the movie hits cinemas.
STAR WARS THE RISE OF SKYWALKER IS OUT ON DECEMBER 19
