Star Wars 9: Who does Doctor Who's Matt Smith play in Star Wars movie?
Matt Smith is well-loved by TV fans all over the world. His turn as The Eleventh Time Lord in Doctor Who amazed fans and shot him to super-stardom. But will he feature in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, and if so, who will he play?
When asked whether he was in the new Star Wars film, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Matt Smith was pretty clear.
Speaking after Variety reported he would be in the movie back in 2018, he said: “As far as I know, I’m not [in it.]”
However, the Topps trading cards from the franchise have left fans believing perhaps their favourite time traveller will appear in the movie after all.
The images released are of an unnamed alien creature, which seems to be wearing some kind of full-face helmet.
As a result of the leak of this card, for which the character is just called “A New Face,” fans are certain this is Smith, and are taking to Twitter to share the shock.
One fan tweeted side-by-side images of Smith and the card, with the comment: “MATT SMITH IS REALLY IN THE MOVIE OMGGGGG IM SO HAPPY!!!!!!!!!!!”
Another fan said: “The question of whether Matt is in #StarWarsRiseofSkywalker has been rumbling on for months now.
“Matt has even said himself he’s not in it! Now this picture has popped up and everyone is going crazy!
“So what do you think? Is this Matt?? #MattSmith #DoctorWho #StarWars”
These posts have had plenty of comments from fans who are certain the Doctor will feature in the film.
Another fan believes he has figured out who Matt Smith will play, deciding it must be Emperor Palpatine.
The fan tweeted: “Right Matt Smith is playing Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars IX, that’s HIS voice in the D23 trailer, how has no-one picked up on this???
“Imma [sic] retweet the hell outta this when the movie’s out.”
Of course, Star Wars fever is really hitting fans as it was revealed the new trailer for the movie will drop on Monday, October 21.
This comes after John Boyega’s agent posted a photo confirming the trailer would come out during Monday Night Football in the USA, meaning it will come out during the half time.
This would be at around 2.30/3am in the UK, and is only viewable on ESPN.
This may not be the case, but Star Wars fans all over the world are certain this will be on.
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is out in cinemas on December 20
