Star Wars: Darth Maul star reveals why he was CUT at the last minute  

Back in 1999, Peter Serafinowicz voiced Darth Maul, while Ray Park gave the villain’s physical performance. And while Ray returned for the Solo: A Star Wars Story cameo last year, it turns out Peter’s voice was cut. Speaking with Collider, Peter said: “I recorded this scene. I went to… Pinewood Studios and was on the set. And I spoke to Ron Howard for about half an hour about the character – what he’d become. [That] was 29 minutes longer than I spoke to George Lucas about the character, years ago.”

Peter amusingly revealed Star Wars creator George Lucas’ only advice to him was: “Just make him sound evil.”

The actor continued: “So I [recorded for Solo] and it was all super secret. Ray Park was coming in the day after to film the actual physical thing.

“They had to bring him in a blacked out limousine. There was an area of the set that was like of limits to everybody. Y’know, it was all secret, secret, secret.

“Anyway, I was excited that this film was going to come out. I was going to take my kids and their friends.”

But then Peter knew something was up when Ray was invited to the Solo premiere in LA but he wasn’t.

The actor then explained how he received an email apologising that his voice work had been cut and replaced with Sam Witwer.

Star Wars fans will know Witwer as the voice of Darth Maul in the Clone Wars and Rebels animated TV series.

So it turns out they replaced Peter with Sam for continuity purposes. Meanwhile, Peter may have teased his dead Guardians of the Galaxy character is returning for Avengers Endgame.

Peter played Garthan Saal of the Nova Corp in Guardians of the Galaxy but died in the final battle on Xander.

However, when Screen Rant asked if Peter or the Nova Corp would be returning for Avengers Endgame, the actor played it very coy.

He said: “I can’t say… I can neither confirm nor deny.”

With rumours of time travel in Avengers Endgame, perhaps we haven’t seen the last of Saal.
