Star Wars Episode 9: Could this be the LAST Star Wars movie for C3PO?
Star Wars has been a part of the pop culture zeitgeist for over three decades. The characters transcend language and distance, and love for them is passed down through generations. But the upcoming Star Wars Episode 9 will see the final chapter close on the iconic Skywalker saga.
Will Star Wars Episode 9 be the final film for C-3PO?
C-3PO is one of the rare characters in a franchise who inspires universal love and acclaim.
Anthony Daniels, the man behind the golden droid, also inspired the love of his castmates – and his last day on set was an emotional one, according to Poe actor Oscar Isaac.
Though C-3PO had less to do in the contemporary trilogy, Isaac revealed the droid will play a more significant role in Episode 9, which could very well be his last.
Speaking on The Tonight Show, Isaac said: “It was such a milestone.”
STAR WARS EPISODE 9 RELEASE DATE UK: WHEN IS STAR WARS IX OUT?
“And what’s particularly special is the day that I finished, these three massive movies, such a huge part of my life, it was like, ‘okay, Oscar’s done,’ so I said a few words.
“And then it was, ‘and it’s also Anthony Daniels’ last day on set!’
“Way to take the thunder! He’s been there from the very beginning.
“Originally George Lucas saw the whole thing as a story about C-3PO and R2-D2; these two droids who witness all this history.”
“He was super emotional about it, hanging up the golden cowl.
“And I think, and I mean it, he kept saying this was the most fun he’s had. He had so many fun things to do.
“We got to work a lot together and it was amazing to see that piece of history up close.”
All of this is speculation is gleaned from the morsels of information Isaac has given in his recent interviews.
Whether or not Daniels will return to the franchise in a later film, either as a flashback or in his fully functioning droid form, remains to be seen.
