Star Wars episode 9 release date, cast, plot: When will it be out in UK and USA?

Star Wars fans are known for being able to make mountains out of molehills, whether from love or hate.

They can spin elaborate theories based on something as simple as Mark Hamill shaving his beard.

But they can also tear down actors simply for their gender or race; being a Star Wars fan is a roller coaster.

With the release of the Episode 9 cast list, hopefully, some of this pent-up energy (which seemed to gain in momentum after the disappointment of Solo) can be put to a collective good use by coming up with plot speculations and fan theories.

The UK gets Star Wars Episode 9 one day before America, with a Thursday, December 19, 2019 release.

Fans in America will be able to see it Friday, December 20, 2019.

Who is in the Star Wars cast?

Episode 9 sees plenty of familiar faces returning to the galaxy far, far away.

Putting a pin in the most rampant fan theories, Mark Hamill and Billy Dee Williams will both reprise their roles as Luke Skywalker and Lando Calrissian respectively.

How Luke appears in Episode 9 remains to be seen, but the most prominent theory is he will show up as a force ghost (a device used throughout the Star Wars movies).

The other most exciting news from the Star Wars cast announcement is Carrie Fisher’s reprisal of general/Princess Leia Organa, by way of unused footage from The Force Awakens.

This method of giving Carrie Fisher the respectful and much-wanted send off for Leia has been approved by both Fisher’s brother and her daughter, Billie Lourd.

Lourd will reprise her role, too, as Kaydel Ko Connix.

Other cast members returning who were never in question include Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Kelly Marie Tran, and Oscar Isaac.

New faces added to the list include Keri Russel, Richard E Grant, and Naomi Ackie all in undisclosed roles.

What is the Star Wars Episode 9 plot?

No one knows for sure, and given Lucasfilms’ secretive nature it’s unlikely anyone will find out until the Star Wars execs are good and ready.

However, it’s safe to say there will be some showdown between Rey and Kylo Ren.

And there should be some moment involving Leia which, sadly, will lead to her death (a scene which is guaranteed to be a tearjerker for even the most casual of Star Wars fans).

Relationship wise, fans are expecting something to shift between Finn and Rey, or Finn and Rose, or even Rey and Poe, despite Daisy Ridley’s repeated statements surrounding Rey’s romantic inclinations (mainly, she has none).

How Lando Calrissian fits into it is also unclear, though fans are worried for his safety given how both Han and Luke have faired in the contemporary Star Wars trilogy.

Star Wars Episode 9 is in UK cinemas Thursday, December 19, 2019, and US cinemas Friday, December 20, 2019.
