Star Wars Han Solo movie: FIRST photo of the shoot in Spain shows the amazing sets
Filming is due to start later this month on the island. A local news site Noticias Fuerteventura has released a photograph taken from over the film site showing just how far construction has already advanced in the last few weeks.
The story is captioned: “First images of the Star Wars encampment in Fuerteventura.”
Local tourist agencies and news outlets have already excitedly trumpetted details of how many locals will be working as extras on the shoot.
Coupled with the new aerial shot, this gives an idea of just how impressive this section of the movie will be.
Security is apparently incredibly tight for the new movie, which Emilia Clarke has revealed is “even scarier” than Game of Thrones.
The new photograph can be seen below. The Spanish news site said: “The preparations for the upcoming movie production are getting more advanced as you can see from the photo we are showing you of the sets for the Han Solo spin-off.”
All the buildings that can be seen so far are circular, reminiscent of the homes and buildings on Luke Skywalker’s home planet of Tatooine.
The shot shows the sand dunes of the Fuerteventura setting which indicate the scenes being filmed there will take place on a desert planet in the finished film.
Our existing knowledge of Star Wars locations immediately also flags up Rey’s Jakku as having a similar terrain. The penal colony that Jyn Erso was rescued from in Rogue One is also located on the rather desolate Wobani.
Han Solo’s own homeworld of Corellia is probably ruled out for these scenes, however, since it is described as an industrial planet, an unlikely fit for this sandy location.
Spanish Star Wars site La Fosa del Rancor (The Rancor Pit, named after the place Jabba the Hutt kept his pet rancor) reported that three weeks’ work (with possible addition weekends) was being offered on the shoot, which is talking place on Fureteventura across May and June. Standard pay was quoted at 450 euros per week.
Unfortunately for global fans, the opportunity is only availble to those who “live on the island.”
