Star Wars: Has THIS character been a SITH the whole time? Amazing gaffe

Fans have spotted that Google lists none other than Jar Jar Binks in a list of “sith characters” on its search results page.

Sure enough, searching for “Darth Jar Jar” results in a list of antagonists for the Star Wars series under that headline, including Count Dooku, Sheev Palpatine and others.

Jar Jar Binks – the hapless Gungan introduced in The Phantom Menace – is, for reasons unknown, among them.

He also appears under a general search for “sith characters” – although in a sign that the algorithm is definitely erroneous, Obi-Wan Kenobi pops up here too.

Binks only appeared with a substantial role in The Phantom Menace, although he had a smaller presence in Attack of the Clones.

He made his mark there, though: ultimately helping Palpatine gain the power that would lead to the horrifying conclusion of Revenge of the Sith.

His canon appearances set after the events of the prequels have been few and far between, but canon literature reveals he was exiled by his people for his role in abetting the rise of the Empire.

After the Battle of Endor he was found performing in the streets as a clown popular with children, with adults refusing to speak to him or even say his name.

Ahmed Best played the character in the prequels, and recently made a triumphant return to Star Wars Celebration after previously suffering horrific abuse that contributed to a mental health deterioration that left him feeling suicidal.

He had opened up in 2016: “Star Wars was my first ‘most hated’ title in anything really. It was painful.

“One of the biggest reasons I took it was because of the challenge of it—there was no Andy Serkis and Gollum, Navi from Avatar, Martians, John Carter.

“I was to be the template for this, so I was kinda working with George [Lucas] to pioneer this new character form of acting and storytelling.

“On set we were all just so focused on the challenge of it and having so much fun that the post-Star Wars stuff was a surprise.

“Even though you play characters, you put a lot of your own personality into it, you get emotionally and personally invested in the work that you do, it’s your work and you take pride in it.

“So when your work is criticized negatively, you feel a hit.”

Lucas, however, has maintained that Jar Jar is his favourite character in the whole saga.
