Star Wars: 'It's been a long time coming' Star talks major casting news
Star Wars favourite Ewan McGregor will be reprising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in a new Disney+ series focusing on the Jedi’s journey. However, it’s been a long time coming, with the actor recently revealing he has known about the project for four years. Appearing on Lorraine, the actor said he had started to feel as if it looked like he was desperately “touting” for the part when he was asked about returning in interviews.
“Yeah, playing Obi-Wan again, thank god, thank goodness…” he laughed.
“It’s been a long time coming, it’s so silly. They [Disney bosses] are so secretive.”
Revealing how he has had to dismiss questions about Star Wars in recent years, McGregor continued: “It’s been a long time where I’ve had to go, ‘Oh, I don’t know?’
“It started to feel like I was sort of touting for the part — ‘Remember me, I’m over here!’”

McGregor played the younger version of Obi-Wan in the Star Wars prequels, Episodes One, Two and Three.
He also lent his voice to The Force Awakens, but his last live action appearance was in Revenge of the Sith in 2005.
The Star Wars star went on to open up about his character, who was played by the late Alec Guinness in the original trilogy.
“What was the most satisfying, for me, about playing Obi-Wan, was trying to make him a young Alec Guinness — getting to study one of the most amazing actors of all time and trying to imagine how he might have played the part when he was my age,” he said.
However, he said he was glad the tale had turned out the way it has, adding: “It’s really exciting that it is [going to be a series] now.
“I’m really into the idea to be able to tell the story over several hours instead of just one hit. I think it’s going to be quite cool.”
McGregor also teased hints about the story arc in the upcoming Disney+ series, saying: “It will be interesting to take a character we know in a way and show him — well, his arc will be quite interesting, I think, dealing with that the fact that all the Jedi were slaughtered with the end of Episode three. It’s quite something to get over.”
In the timeline, the series will slot in between Episode Three and Episodes Four, when, as the actor noted, the Jedi Order was “falling apart”.
