Star Wars: Mark Hamill blasts these BIG MISTAKES 'What can they do, fire me?'
The man also known as Luke Skywalker has always flirted with danger talking about his most famous role. He has never hidden his frustrations with some of the decisions made in the sequel trilogy. Although he has never allied himself with the backlash and boycott fans, his views and his latest comments have often lined up with some of the most prevalent complaints about The Last Jedi and even The Force Awakens. This time he has clearly explained the two things he sees as “big mistakes.”
Hamill is currently promoting his role as Talus on the History Channel drama Knightfall but, naturally, the conversation soon turns to Star Wars. He told Den of Geek he still struggles with the decision to kill off Han Solo in Episode 7.
Hamill said: “I just thought, ‘Luke’s never going to see his best friend again.’ You look at it in a self-centred way. I said that it was a big mistake that those three people would never reunite in any way.”
“I guess I was wrong, because nobody seems to care! I have to stipulate that I care, but it didn’t really seem to affect the larger audience. Luke, Han and Leia will never be together again, and I’ll probably never get to work with Harrison again.”
He’s wrong that nobody else cared, but he’s also very clear about the other mistake he thinks they made.
Hamill added: “Then the second thing was that they killed me off. I thought. ‘Oh, okay, you should push my death off to the last one.’ That’s what I was hoping when I came back: no cameos and a run-of-the-trilogy contract. Did I get any of those things?”
This sounds increasingly like Hamill’s Luke will feature only in fleeting cameos in Episode 9.
It is certainly not what many fans want to hear, since much of the backlash centred on the perceived disregard shown to the central legacy characters.
STAR WARS 9: JJ ABRAMS SPEAKS OUT ON FAN BACKLASH AND EPISODE IX PLANS
Hamill explained he has learned to accept the situation and revealed his new outlook.
The actor said: “I don’t control the storylines. I’m sort of like a musician. I read the music, and I try to play it to the best of my ability. That doesn’t necessarily mean I like the tune, but that’s not my job.”
STAR WARS 9 IS OUT ON DECEMBER 20
