Star Wars Obi-Wan movie breaking news: Production FINALLY begins with famous director
Hollywood press outlets are buzzing today with the latest Star Wars news.
After months of speculation, Disney and Lucasfilm have started on the long-awaited Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone movie.
The latest Star wars Anthologies chapter will follow last year’s triumphant Rogue One and next year’s young Han Solo project.
Industry experts are already projecting a 202o release date for teh movie and teh Hollywood Reporter has just announced that a famous Oscar-nominated director is “in talks” to take the helm.
The Hollywood Reporter said: “Stephen Daldry is Star Wars’ newest hope.
“The Oscar-nominated director behind Billy Elliot and The Hours is in early talks to direct a Star Wars stand-alone movie centering on Obi-Wan Kenobi… If a deal makes, Daldry would oversee the development and writing with Lucasfilm brass.”
Daldry was previously Oscar-nominated for Billy Elliot, The Hours and The Reader. The British director also recently directed episodes of the Netflix drama The Crown, about the life of Queen Elizabeth II.
But will Ewan McGregor return as the Jedi legend?
Ewan McGregor played the younger version of Alec Guiness’ original character, and has been vocal in his desire to do one or even more new movies.
He said: “I always thought there was a story to tell between the last and the first film with Alec Guinness. It would be fun to return to that story now that I’m older.
“I am the right age for that matter. I’m 45, Alec Guinness was 60? I could do two of them!”
The Jedi hasn’t been seen in a live action Star Wars film since 2005’s Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, but it looks like fans will finally find out what he was up to in the years before Episode IV: A New Hope.
Disney had already marked out a release date for an untitled Star Wars spin-off in 2020, with reports split over whether it would be the expected Boba Fett standalone or Obi-Wan.
Now we know that it will be given to the Jedi master and his new adventures – but who will play Obi-Wan and who will be his main enemy?
