Superman shock: 'WB bringing back THIS previous actor NOT Henry Cavill for new movie'
Despite persistent reports and rumours there has been no official word yet about Cavill’s future as the Man of Steel.
The British star is currently focussed on the big budget Netflix adaptation of The Witcher novels and computer games, but a fellow star has just dropped a DC Extended Universe bombshell.
Jack O’Halloran starred as the menacing but mute Kryptonian villain Non in Superman: The Movie.
At a recent screening he let slip that Warner Bros is planning on bringing back a different, former Superman star.
The news broke in a report on Reddit filed under “rumours” but claiming to be a first-person account of revelations at a recent fan event.
It said: “I just attended the 40th Anniversary screening of Superman: The Movie in Beverly Hills. Jack O’Halloran, who played the villain Non, was the guest of honor afterward.
“He told the audience that he is working with Warner Bros on bringing back Christopher Reeve as a hologram in a future Superman movie.”
This immediately suggests one of two possibilities: the fast-tracked upcoming Supergirl movie or an adaptation of the Infinite Crisis comicbook storyline.
Fans were also quick to point out that there have always been rumours that O’Halloran clashed with Reeve on set and so this may just be an elaborate in-joke or dig.
When the news started to filter out that Cavill might be hanging up his cape, it was also noted that WB was prioritising the Supergirl origin movie. This is already reported to be set in the 1970’s, so some reanimated footage of Reeve from the 1978 original and later 1980s movies could work.
The comicbook Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline feature multiple Earths so a movie version could feasibly show multiple incarnations of Superman.
Comicbook News also points put the the new season of Arrowverse will incorporate The Monitor, from that same storyline, in a crossover between the Arrow, Flash and Supergirl shows.
SUPERMAN HENRY CAVILL RISING FAVOURITE TO REPLACE DANIEL CRAIG AS JAMES BOND
Perhaps WB is looking to start merging its small and big screen properties, which have been far more consistently popular with fans and audiences than the big screen Justice League movies so far, in a major upcoming blockbuster?
It all sounds rather complicated, however.
The again, Marvel has pushed the boundaries (and our poor confused brains) further than ever as they prepare to try and unravel the ending of Infinity War.
There is no denying the thrill of seeing Christopher Reeve once more on the big screen, but it would have to be handled extremely carefully – and not everyone is ready to say goodbye to Cavill just yet.
