It’s been 5 years since the release of Rize of the Fenix, the comedy rock band’s third album.

Now in an exclusive interview with one half of Tenacious D, Kyle Gass, the 57-year-old has revealed when fans can expect the new album.

The star said: “We’re due! Jack [Black] and I are working on an original animated series.

“An album’s gonna come out of that probably next year. It’s gonna change the way you look at entertainment.”

According to Black – who appeared on last year – the show will be “a little post-apocalyptic adventure.”

Tenacious D fans will remember the band’s second album tied in with 2006’s The Pick of Destiny movie, which Gass admitted was a “disaster”.

With that in mind it’s assumed the fourth album will be connected in a similar way to this upcoming animated series.

But for fans who cannot wait, there’s also the Kyle Gass Band, a Tenacious D spin-off which the man himself is currently touring with – having played last weekend at in Kent.

Gass said: “It’s a collection of my friends basically and they are some extremely talented guys. It’s just nothing too complex, it’ a great way to spend your summer vacation.”

Lead singer Mike Bray has played the Sasquatch, The Metal and Satan for previous Tenacious D shows, while lead guitarist John Konesky appeared on both The Pick of Destiny and Rize of the Fenix albums.

Kyle Gass Band have two albums and are currently on the European tour for their latest, Thundering Herd.

On the band’s influences, Gass said: “It’s some good time rock and roll, southern rootsy with a little country. Kinda classic riff rock. We’ve got some twang in there, a little Lynyrd Skynyrd.”

“We don’t use any computers on stage or laptops. So what you see is kinda a throwback really. It’s almost nostalgic now.”

On a third Kyle Gass Band album, he said he’s working on it: “You get to the end of that album cycle, this is our eighth trip to Europe. Obviously we haven’t won you over totally yet, so we’re gonna need a masterpiece.

“The third album – it’s time for the White album. We’re looking for our statement album.”

Kyle Gass Band’s Thundering Herd is out now, while Tenacious D’s fourth album will be released in 2018.
