Terminator Dark Fate 2: Is there a sequel to new Terminator movie?
Terminator: Dark Fate has arrived in cinemas after a long wait for fans of the franchise. Not only is this a new movie about The Terminator, but also a reunion of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and Edward Furlong as T-800, Sarah and John Connor. But does their reunion mean there is another Terminator movie in the pipeline?
Is there a sequel to Terminator: Dark Fate?
At the moment, there has been no confirmed sequel to Terminator: Dark Fate.
However, those who were first to see the film have suggested the movie sets up for follow-up – as the team gets ready to do “more work” to save mankind.
If the movie is a success at the box office, it will likely make the potential more of a reality, but there could be some hurdles in the way.
For a start, there have been some problems with regards the copyright of the Terminator stories.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Gale Anne Hurd, who wrote the original movie, has moved to terminate a copyright grant made 35 years ago.
This means Skydance Media, one of the production companies behind the new film, may not be able to make any more Terminator movies beyond November 2020.
If that happens, any possible sequel would have to be turned around incredibly quickly or is unlikely to make it to the screen.
This being said, Linda Hamilton has suggested she may not even be up for making another, as she told ITV’s Lorraine Kelly she found the shoot challenging.
When asked about whether she would make another movie, she said: “I don’t even want to think about it.”
Her acting colleague, Mackenzie Davis, added: “It was so hard making this g*****n movie.” – what’s the starred out word?
Hamilton then added: “I may have to fake my own death so I don’t have to appear in the next one – if there is one.
“It really was hard – it was the hardest and the greatest film I’ve ever done.”
She also explained how she had “no carbs” for the year around the filming to get in shape to play Sarah Connor once again.
With all this being said, the box office will likely be the big thing that swings a studio in favour of a sequel, so if fans see this movie, ticket sales may be a reason for another movie to be made.
However, if Hamilton is not up for a return, and the studio loses the rights to make any more Terminator movies, this may be our last time seeing Sarah Connor and The Terminator together on screen.
