She said: “It would be great to see women given more to do in the Bond films and shown to have a bit more of a brain. They do need less of the lady being pushed on to the bed and him [Bond] have her. We need to see consensual sex. That needs to be modified a little bit.” Madeline cemented her place in film history when she played Italian agent Miss Caruso and had a love scene with Roger Moore’s James Bond in Live And Let Die in 1973.

She said: “My character was completely brainless and, let’s face it, she was just there for sex. But we’ve moved on since then, which is a very good thing.

“Times have changed and I think producers are careful to make the films modern. I think Daniel Craig has adapted to the times. He’s a very modern Bond. The magnificent success of the recent films prove that. But it’s also important to remember that the films are fantasy. They mustn’t be taken too seriously. It’s tongue in cheek.”

Madeline is also backing calls for a woman to replace Craig as the iconic secret agent.

She said: “I don’t think it matters what sex the person is. It depends on the person. Jodie Whittaker is super as Doctor Who. And that proves James Bond could be someone of either sex, so long as they do it to the very best of their ability and put their heart and soul into it. Doctor Who has proved that there is nothing that should stand in the way of hiring a woman.”
