The Lion King live action remake: Guess which Marvel star has been cast as Simba’s mother?
Casting news for Jon Favrea’s live action remake keeps coming in and it looks like Simba’s family is now complete.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Alfre Woodard, who plays Mariah Dillard in Luke Cage, has been cast as Sarabi, Simba’s mother.
The Oscar-nominee joins James Earl Jones returning as Mufasa, with Donald Glover as Simba.
Meanwhile last week saw Chiwetel Ejiofor in talks for Scar despite rumours the part would go to Hugh Jackman.
Scar is one of the best-known villains in the Disney canon; originally voiced by Jeremy Irons in the 1990s animation.
Meanwhile supporting characters include Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen as Timon and Pumbaa.
Also John Oliver will follow in Rowan Atkinson’s footsteps as Zazu.
Director Favreau follows in his own, having make The Jungle Book live action remake for Disney last year.
Other Disney live action remakes currently in production include Dumbo and Mulan.
The Lion King will be released in UK cinemas on July 19, 2019.
