The Platform 2 Netflix release date: Will there be another film?

The Platform 2 could be on the cards as the Netflix series has been high up in the streaming platform’s ranks. The Spanish film was released in 2019 and the sci-fi thriller is set in an eerie prison. Fans of the movie have been keen to find out whether a second season will be given the green light.

Will there be another series of The Platform?

The Spanish horror film was directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia and first came out in 2019, premiering at the Toronto International Film Festival.

At the festival the movie secured its worldwide streaming deal with Netflix, and the streaming platform started running the 90-minute long film.

As The Platform is a standalone film there is no knowing whether a second take is on the cards, but Netflix fans can never say never.

If there was to be a sequel it would likely come out in September 2021, seeing as there has been no update since the film’s release.

Who will be in the cast of The Platform 2?

The main character in the film is an inmate called Goreng (played by Iván Massagué) who wakes up in a concrete prison where food is delivered on a platform.

Each month he is assigned to a different level of the prison, where different amounts of food are left for him.

As Goreng is still around at the end of the film, there is scope to see what happens to him, and even how he ended up there in the first place.

A nameless girl also becomes the focus of the film as she travels all the way to the top of the prison – uncharted territory.

The little girl could have her own spin-off where viewers find out what happens when she arrives at the top and how the administration deal with her.

What will happen in The Platform 2?

There has not been much information about why the spooky prison was set up or what its purpose is in trying to rehabilitate inmates.

This means there could be scope for a prequel which looks into the origins of the prison, which has been described as a “social experiment” in the film.

Director Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia has not yet confirmed whether there could be another take on The Platform, but given the mysteries unanswered and the open ending there is always a possibility.

There could also be more focus on the administration itself, with a film focusing on things from their perspective.

Is there a trailer for The Platform 2?

There is no trailer for a second take on this film just yet as there has been no more news on the show’s future.

However, as it is one of the highest ranking films on Netflix at the moment, it could open up an opportunity for more.

For now it seems there is nothing in the pipeline, but the original film will be available to watch for some time.

Inmates are fed by means of a platform that gradually makes its way down the levels of the tower. For those on the lower levels, they can only eat what the inmates above leave for them.
