Triple Frontier budget: How much did Ben Affleck's Triple Frontier cost Netflix?

Triple Frontier had its share of ups and downs before finally coming to Netflix. There were a number of cast swaps and studio changes on the action film. Even its main star, Ben Affleck, had temporarily dropped out of the picture. So after all the changes, how much did Netflix pay for the film?

How much did Netflix pay for Triple Frontier?

The film’s official budget has not been confirmed but sources had pegged it at £61 million ($80 m).

According to Vulture, Triple Frontier ranks alongside movies like Bright (£68.7 m) and Martin Scorsese’s upcoming The Irishman (with a reported budget of £106 m).

The ever growing budget was one of the reasons Paramount dropped the movie in the first place.

But money wasn’t the only issue Triple Frontier faced as a revolving door of cast members in various stages of seriousness was also cited.

These names included Will Smith, Johnny Depp, Mark Wahlberg, Mahershala Ali, Tom Hanks, Sean Penn, Javier Bardem, Christian Bale, Channing Tatum, Tom Hardy, Ben Affleck, and Casey Affleck.

It wasn’t until 2017 the cast began to finally solidify.

By the summer of 2017 Oscar Isaac, Charlie Hunnam, Garrett Hedlund and Pedro Pascal had joined the cast with Ben Affleck still attached.

Mahershala Ali and Casey Affleck dropped out due to production delays but then Ben Affleck himself withdrew to focus on rehabilitation for alcohol addiction.

Mark Wahlberg was briefly teased as filling Affleck’s role, but in the end, Affleck returned.

Triple Frontier’s filming took place over 64 days and production took place in Oahu, Hawaii, the Sierra Nevada mountains in California, and Bogotá, Colombia.

In an interview with Vulture, Triple Frontier’s producer Alex Gartner said they had never given up on the project.

Garter said: “We were occasionally amazed by the challenges thrown in front of us along the way, but we never lost faith.

“There was never a part of our minds that thought the movie wasn’t going to happen. It was just a matter of when.”

Triple Frontier’s official plot synopsis reads: “Former Special Forces operatives reunite to plan a heist in a sparsely populated multi-border zone of South America.

“For the first time in their prestigious careers, these unsung heroes undertake this dangerous mission for themselves instead of the country.

“But when events take an unexpected turn and threaten to spiral out of control, their skills, their loyalties, and their morals are pushed to a breaking point in an epic battle for survival.”
