Twin Peaks will 'all make sense in the end'

Twin Peaks star Kyle Maclachlan has promised fans “it will all make sense in the end”, if audiences persevere.

The actor, who plays FBI special agent Dale Cooper in David Lynch’s surreal show, says only after the full 18 episodes will the plot unfold.

“I think we all knew it was going to be a challenging journey for the audience, simply because it is 18 parts of one giant piece, and it’s sequential, so people really have to stay with it,” he told the Hollywood Reporter.

“And also that David’s storytelling is filled with imagery and different perspectives and characters and things that may initially be confusing to people, but ultimately everything will come back together and make sense,” he added.

“It will be clear.”

The show has had a positive reception since its return last May, with audiences and critics praising the way Lynch managed to retain the nostalgic feeling of the original show, while creating new characters and storylines.

“Many people wanted the nostalgic return to the Twin Peaks that they remembered. And that’s not what we’re representing here. There are a lot of new stories going forward,” MacLachlan said.

The 58-year-old star is yet to reprise his original role, with his character Cooper having been left at the iconic Black Lodge for 25 years after being taken by the evil spirit of BOB.

For now, MacLachlan has been playing his evil doppelganger – a recurrent theme in the Lynchian universe.

The acclaimed director is known for constantly questioning his characters identity, changing actors midway through a film or bringing them back from the dead as doppelgangers or distant cousins.

Add to that a one-armed man, a one-eyed woman, a woman who carries a log like a baby, an owl who knows secrets, a giant who tells secrets and a small, secluded town with 51,201 inhabitants – and you’ve got modern American mythology.

Twin Peaks is on every Tuesday 9pm on Sky Atlantic and is available on Now TV.
