Two people rushed to hospital after HUGE blaze at skyscraper in Montreal, Canada
At least two people were sent to hospital after the fire broke out on Friday afternoon.
Around 200 firefighters responded to the blaze.
Four workers on the scene near the top of the building were treated on the scene and two others were transported to hospital.
Firefighter Francis Leduc told CTV Montreal said: “We evacuated the building right away.
“The building itself became full of smoke so it made it a bit tougher to get the people out.
“It’s even tougher for us (because) we have to go by the staircase.”
The fire was upgraded to a five-alarm fire.
Thick black smoke poured out of the Bell Media Tower.
Firefighters gathered at the Place Montréal Trust complex on the corner of McGill College Avenue and Ste-Catherine Street.
The blaze is believed to be on the roof of the 30-storey building.
Many streets in downtown Montreal are closed due to the fire.
Montreal fire department said on Twitter that a power failure is possible.
The Bell Media Tower was built by the Montreal Trust Company.
It is 410ft and was originally owned by Cadillac Fairview but is now owned by Ivanhoe Cambridge.
The building hosts several French-speaking television stations.
