UK weather forecast: Travel mayhem as thick fog and -9C temperatures to halt flights
The Met Office has also warned that the fog could be brought on by lows of -9C (15.8F) across the nation. The frosty weather is expected to cause travel chaos across the country with a yellow weather warning in place for fog today. While the cold snap continues, two inches of rain are expected to fall on Tuesday.
The rain will begin in the west and then making its way towards other areas that have already been hit by flooding.
The Met Office also warned that the Highlands could see temperatures drop to -8.1C (17.42F).
Meanwhile, in the north of England, temperatures will drop to around -6C (21.2F).
The south of England will also see temperatures plummet to well below freezing.
The north of the UK will also see some snowfall on higher ground.
A yellow warning for fog has been issued by forecasters for Tuesday.
Met Office Meteorologist Claire Nasir said: “The Met Office has issued a fog warning anywhere from Liverpool, east Wales, the Midlands, central and southern England.
“It will cover much of London and the home counties as well as Kent.

“There will be some freezing fog around, and it will be slow to clear.
“The weather is set to be quite cold and will most likely stay in single figures.
“We’ll be seeing the worst of the fog in the morning and our yellow warning is in place from 4am until 11am.
“We advise rush hour commuters to take extra care as there will be reduced visibility as a result of the fog.”
The north will struggle to hit double-digits this week.
However, the south of England will see temperatures creep into double digits with highs of 12C (53.6F).
Met Office Meterologist Greg Dewhurst said: “Slow-moving rain returns to the West on Tuesday and to Yorkshire and other parts from Thursday for the rest of the week, with bands of rain.
“It’s cold in the northerly flow. Monday night could be the coldest night of autumn in Scotland and England, exceeding -8.1C (17.42F) in Scotland and down to -6C (21.2F) in northern England.
“Snow showers could be seen on higher ground of Scotland, with a bit of snow over northern England.
