Undercover Festival moves to Margate
It is unique in that it is indoors and not in a muddy field so you don’t need your wellies – unless you spill your beer.
And the music is punk, post-punk, ska, anti X Factor, independent and alternative, both new and classic.
Tom Robinson (with band) headlines on the Friday with Eddie & The Hot Rods, Jilted John and about 20 other bands.
On the Saturday it’s the Angelic Upstarts, Ruts DC, Geno Washington & The Ram Jam Band, Doctor & The Medics, Subhumans, Inner Terrestrials, Radical Dance Faction, The Fanzines, plus about 30 others and DJs.
And The Weird Things and Wyrd Sisters are on the same bill.
Undercover has moved four times. It originated from the ashes of the sadly departed GuilFest where it was in a Tony Scott marquee.
It then decamped to Bisley, Surrey for a couple of years, and was in Brighton last year.
This year it is at Dreamland amusement park in Margate, Kent, so alongside the music fans can enjoy rides, sandy beaches and the sea.
The event that has become a firm fixture in many people’s diaries, with dedicated aficionados coming back year on year.
Festival organiser Mick Moriarty said: “Other festivals tend to book bands that in the main are broadly similar – and way too safe! We aim for an experience that is different and appeals to a crowd definitely not catered for elsewhere.
“This year’s line-up is packed with bands that should appeal to most that like their music alternative.
“Undercover is an X Factor-free zone and there is no place for that schmaltzy pulp on our stages.
“We’ve got through to our fifth year as what we have created has struck a chord with people who like their music full of the passion and energy that only acts like ours generate.
“See you down the (sea) front!”
