Among the regular names linked to a demise have often been the likes of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Captain America (Chris Evans), and – more recently – even relative newcomer Dr Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch).

Asked about rumours of a sequel to his 2016 solo movie, he appeared to remain coy – hinting that he could be making an early departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe after all.

During a recent interview with MTV, he said he’s certainly in harm’s way throughout the all-star blockbuster.

Alluding to Thanos, he spilled: “There’s lots of threats coming his way. He holds the Time Stone around his neck for a part of this film.

“We know someone is coming to get them for a big glove.”

When the interviewer said he’s unlikely to meet his demise, Cumberbatch added: “It might not be. It says you’ll see Doctor Strange again at the end of the first one and you have.

“You’ve seen him in Thor: Ragnarok and you know he’s in this one. Doesn’t mean there’s gonna be any more of him, so you’ll have to wait and see.”

Speaking to Uproxx, the writers opened up on the exits – confirming that they’ll be more significant than just a couple of background extras.

Steven McFeely said: “These two movies are the end of something and the beginning of something else, so we are going to say goodbye to people.

“We’re not just going to say goodbye to ‘seventh Asgardian on the left.’”
