In the new Dark Phoenix TV spot, Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) seems to come into her own as a supervillain. The long-running X-Men franchise has had its ups and downs. But with Dark Phoenix, the most popular X-Men saga, director Simon Kinberg is determined to deliver a hit.

What does the new TV spot reveal?

In the previous trailers, Grey appeared confused, searching for direction.

But the new short clip shows Grey revelling in her newfound and barely controllable powers, saying: “It scares me. It feels good.”

The teaser was posted to the X-Men twitter account with the caption: “A phoenix will rise.”

Usually a positive cliche, in Jean Grey’s case the rebirth is that of someone on a destructive trajectory.

X-MEN DARK PHOENIX RELEASE DATE DELAYED AGAIN PLUS NEW DEADPOOL MOVIE

The official plot synopsis for X-Men Dark Phoenix reads: “The X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe when one of their own, Jean Grey, starts to spiral out of control.

“During a rescue mission in outer space, Jean is nearly killed when she’s hit by a mysterious cosmic force.

“Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable.

“The X-Men must now band together to save her soul and battle aliens that want to use Grey’s new abilities to rule the galaxy.”

X-MEN DARK PHOENIX: WHERE DOES IT FIT IN CRAZY X-MEN MOVIE TIMELINE?

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Turner revealed her anxiety about taking on the Jean Grey mantle.

“I know it’s one of the most loved stories of the X-Men universe and for Simon to trust me enough with this responsibility is a big honour.

“And I want to do the fans of the original story justice, and of course, there’s a lot of pressure especially having been done before.

“Simon would tell you that it was a B-plot of the movie and he felt it had to be the main plot of the movie.”

Jessica Chastain is a fellow newcomer, whose mysterious role has yet to be revealed.
