xXx 4: Will Deepika Padukone return for xXx 4? The fourth instalment CONFIRMED

After sitting out the second movie in the series, Vin Diesel is reprising his role as a sports-enthusiast turned spy.

xXx: The return of Xander Cage, the third instalment, earned more than £266 million ($346 million) with a budget of £65m ($85 m).

Given this profit, it seemed inevitable a fourth movie would be made.

Now that the fourth sequel has been confirmed, the question of the cast remains – who will return and who has stepped away from the franchise?

Will Deepika Padukone return for xXx 4?

The answer is a big yes.

The Bollywood star is set to reprise her role as Serena Unger.

Serena Unger is a member of Xiang’s team.

She is also Xander’s love interest.

xXx 4 was confirmed earlier this year.

The director DJ Caruso also confirmed he wanted to have Padukone reprise her role via Twitter.

He wrote: “I want to end ‘xXx 4’ with a Bollywood dance song. Led of course by @deepikapadukone. Lungi Dance? Something new?”

Padukone is a Bollywood star, but xXx 3 was her first Hollywood film.

Since she has scored a slew of new roles.

Padukone starred in the record-breaking Bollywood film Padmaavat.

In Padmaavat she played the legendary 13th-14th-century Indian queen Padmaavat.

The queen committed johar, or suicide – scenes which Padukone found disturbing and difficult to portray.

She also announced in late September that she planned to produce and star in a movie about a real-life acid attack survivor.

After hearing the story of Laxmi Agarwal she was “deeply moved” and inspired to join the project.

As for her role in xXx 4, most of the story is being kept under wraps.

However, director D.J. Caruso did let slip his vision for the sequel.

Speaking to Collider, Caruso said: “I think there’s a bigger ‘they’re’ at play that we talked about.

“We also talked about, particularly with the political climate as it is now, not that we’re such a hugely political movie, but Sam [Jackson] talks about how we need someone to watch the watchers…

“So that’s kind of the idea with the next one,” Caruso added.

“And then, if we can expand on that, what would the world leaders do if they know that these were the people watching the watchers?”

xXx 4 is likely to be in cinemas in 2020.
