Zombieland 2 sequel release date and cast CONFIRMED: Huge Deadpool and Venom links

There is life after death. Again.

Pehaps Marvel fans should take comfort, although it’s unlikely they want to see their beloved heores shuffle back onto screen as zombies.

Sony Pictures made the formal anouncement today that the sequel to the 2009 cult classic is going into production with a full team on board. The sequel will pick up ten yeras after the riginal, with America still palgued by zombies and a new breed emerging.

Fortunately humanity has its fab four on hand once more to deal with the latest crisis with their usual disfunctional snark.  

The Hollywood Reporter said: “After fits and starts, Sony Pictures has reunited the cast of its 2009 surprise hit — including Emma Stone, Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Abigail Breslin — for Zombieland 2.”

It added: “While rumors of the sequel have risen from the dead several times over the years, this time Sony really means it. The film is set to begin production in January and will be released in October 2019, in time for the 10th anniversary of the original movie.”

That is a relatively fast turnaround time which will reflect the indie nature of the original which made up for a small ¢24million budget with a clever screenplay and star turns from its four leads.

Fans will be releived that some of the best writers and directors are also back on board to ensure the same thing happens again.

The original Zombieland writers, Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, have become huge successes in their own rights. They are behind the smash hit Deadpool movies, which are celebrated for their outrageous visual and screenplay wit and irreverence.

They will return along side the first movie’s director, Ruben Fleischer, who is currently shooting Tom Hardy’s Spider-Man spin-off, Venom.

Columbia Pictures president Sanford Panitch said: “This is one of those projects that fans have wanted to see happen for a long time — and no one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse and Abigail.

“These are some of the most in-demand actors, and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters. We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly amazing.”
