Paul McCartney: 'Quincy Jones is a crazy motherf***er, called me the WORST bassist ever'

Sir Paul is currently promoting his latest album Egypt Station.

At 76 he has lost none of his fire, nor his relish for relating colourful and delicious anecdotes from his Beatles past, and even some very recent controversies.

Earlier this year, fellow music legend Quincy Jones fired off about the Beatles and singled out Sir Paul as “the worst bass player I have ever heard.”

Now he has had his own say on the matter, labelling Jones a “crazy motherf***er”

Jones was pictured at the weekend promoting the new documentary about his life, Quincy, at the Toronto Film Festival. In his infamous quiote he called  the Beatles the “worst musicians in the world”.

Last month he said: “They were no-playing motherfuckers. Paul was the worst bass player I ever heard. And Ringo? Don’t even talk about it.”

Sir Paul explained that the two then had an emotional phone conversation.

Sir Paul told GQ magazine: “He’s an old guy. I don’t know what it was. But I don’t think I’m the worst bass player he’s ever heard. Or maybe he’s never heard bad bass players. He’s talking all of this jazz and musicianship, and he’s an arranger and stuff.

“This is like Buddy Rich38 saying Ringo couldn’t drum. Because coming from Buddy Rich’s sensibility, Ringo can’t drum. But coming from our sensibility, Buddy Rich is a load of shit. But God bless him…

“He’s totally out of his tree. But the great thing was, he rang me after this. I’d only heard about it and I’d thought, I’m not sure it’s true. The joke is, I love Quincy, even after this. He’s a crazy motherf***er. But I respect him, he’s done a lot of very good things…

Sir Paul added: “So I get a phone call: ‘Is this Mr. McCartney?’ ‘Yes.’ ‘Quincy would like to speak with you.’ Because he’s always worked through security guys. I said, ‘Hey, Quince!’ ‘Paul, how you doing, man?’ ‘I’m doing great—how are you, you motherf***er!’ I’m just jiving with him. ‘Paul, I didn’t really say that thing — I don’t know what happened, man. I never said that. You know I love you guys!’

“I said, ‘If you had said that, you know what I would have said? F*** you, Quincy Jones!'”

Teh full intervie also reveals Sir Pauls mixed feelings about taking the blame for the end of the Beatles, how the band held group masturbation sessions and how John Lenno tried to persuade him to drilla  hoel in his head.
