Avengers Infinity War theory: Is THIS the truth behind Loki’s death?
The Marvel epic opened with that heartbreaking scene when Thanos strangled the god of mischief in front of his brother Thor.
Of course Loki had attempted to kill Thanos, but was he actually sacrificing himself so that Thor could survive?
That’s what Reddit theorist mercurymaxwell believes, in a theory that’s proven rather popular with fans.
They write: “So this isn’t really a massive groundbreaking theory but it’s why I believe Loki sacrificed himself.”
The theorist continued: “I have seen a lot of theories stating that Loki is not dead, or has a plan or is in Valhalla but I think the truth is much simpler.
“Loki knows Thanos. He knows he is mad, cruel and is obsessed with ‘balance’.
“It wouldn’t be a push as to say Thanos after he is done would kill only one brother to ‘balance’ the scales.
“This is why Loki sacrifices himself, to save his brother he has finally accepted.”
They added: “It’s why Thanos does not kill Thor straight out, he has balanced the scales and is now leaving Thor to his fate.
Meanwhile another theory claims Loki is alive because of the hand he used to try and kill Thanos.
Reddit user radkarth writes: “I’m not sure if anyone else has posted this already, but this is one of the most convincing theories I’ve found surrounding Loki’s ‘death’.
“Loki is right handed. If you look, in movies since the Thor 1 to Avengers 1 to Ragnarok, he wields with his right hand.”
They added: “He holds weapons with his right and the sceptre in Avengers with his right. There are two occasions he uses his left hand (that I’ve found).”
“One, when he fakes his own death in Dark World. “You can find him holding the dagger with his left hand during the entire scene. Two, when he stabs Thanos [in Avengers Infinity War]. So, Loki’s illusion uses his left hand because he’s a mirrored version?
“The Loki that was killed in the beginning of Infinity War was an illusion and he’s still out there, maybe disguised or just in hiding.”
Avengers 4 is released in UK cinemas on April 26, 2019.
