Fans of DC Comics have long taken issue with the many adaptations of the clown prince of crime.

With Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker himself, there are high hopes for the stand-alone origin story.

What is The Joker movie release date?

The Joker has, as of yet, only been given a USA release date.

The film will come out in the States on October 4, 2019 and fans in other countries can only hope it will be the same elsewhere.

Who is in The Joker cast?

Joaquin Phoenix stars as the titular villain, whose original name director Todd Phillips has revealed to be Arthur Fleck.

Marc Maron (currently on Netflix’s TV series Glow) will play “an agent on Robert De Niro’s talk show who plays a part in booking Phoenix’s character, and eventually causing him to go mad and become the Clown Prince of Crime.”

Zazie Beetz will play an unnamed single mother Sophie Dumond, who according to The Hollywood Reporter catches the eye of Fleck.

Frances Conroy (a prolific actress most recently ofAmerican Horror Story fame) is rumoured to be playing Penny, the Joker’s mother.

Also according to The Hollywood Reporter, Rober De Niro will play “a talk show host who is somehow instrumental in the Joker’s origin.”

Josh Pais will play Hoyt Vaughn, an old-school manager of hotel staff.

What is the plot of The Joker movie?

So far, few plot details are known besides the Joker’s real name, Arthur Fleck, and the above notes about the characters.

Todd Phillips who, in addition to directing co-wrote the script which Warner Bros describes as an “exploration of a man disregarded by society [that] is not only a gritty character study but also a broader cautionary tale.”

The Wrap reported this iteration of the joker would be a: “failed 1980s comedian who becomes the clown prince of crime after bombing with audiences.”

No trailer exists yet, but there is a video from the set which shows the Joker on the dingy street of Gotham.

The Joker movie is being filmed in New York City’s Harlem neighbourhood.

As more photos and videos are leaked from the set, there is sure to be plenty of speculation about the direction of the plot, and how failed comedian Arthur Fleck becomes one of the most infamous villains of all.

The Joker is set for release on October 4, 2019.
