James Bond 25 director Cary Fukunaga SPEAKS OUT on replacing Danny Boyle
Yesterday the American filmmaker was finally announced as the new director on Bond 25.
Boyle had previously dropped out over creative differences and now Fukunaga is the man to helm Craig’s fifth and final James Bond outing.
The director has since commented on his appointment, which he seems really pleased about.
Speaking with IndieWire, he said: “I’ve wanted to do one of these [Bond films] for a long time, so that’s not new.”
He continued: “So right now it’s just kind of dealing with the shock that it’s real and the honour obviously and now the responsibility.”
Fukunaga’s appointment was announced via the official James Bond social media accounts.
The statement read: “Michael G. Wilson, Barbara Broccoli and Daniel Craig announced today that #Bond25 will begin filming at Pinewood Studios on 4 March 2019 under the helm of director, Cary Joji Fukunaga with a worldwide release date of 14 February 2020.
“‘We are delighted to be working with Cary. His versatility and innovation make him an excellent choice for our next James Bond adventure,’ said Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli.”
Of course such information doesn’t confirm anything as Bond producers won’t be looking for the next 007 until at least 2021, since Bond 25 has now been delayed until February 2020.
However with Cary now on as director, there’s every chance he could helm Bond 26 starring a new actor. After all, Sam Mendes shot Spectre after Skyfall.
And having worked with Elba before on Beasts of No Nation and the fact he’s said it “would be pretty cool to have Idris” as Bond, it seems the actor’s chances or succeeding Craig are getting better and better.
Bond 25 will be released in UK cinemas on February 14, 2020.
